Infusion Therapy & Cancer Care

Many patients diagnosed with cancer will undergo chemotherapy. In this treatment, a series of cancer-fighting medications are given through infusion. Chemo drugs attack and kill cancer cells, but they cannot always distinguish between cancer cells and healthy cells. This is why the treatment carries some side effects. At Horizon Health, we apply chemotherapy as close to the cancerous tissues as possible to minimize the side effects.

The medical professionals in the infusion clinic are skilled in the following areas of specialized treatment:

  • Administration of chemotherapeutic agents, both oral and IV
  • Recognition and management of signs and symptoms of side effects
  • Intervention techniques
  • Comprehension of psycho/social aspects of cancer care
  • Fostering of other efforts that will advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and a variety of other chronic and acute disorders requiring IV therapy
  • Cancer education and survivorship guidance

Your first appointment with an oncologist will include reviewing medical history, diagnosis, imaging tests, and any questions you might have. Your oncologist will discuss possible treatment options and lifestyle changes pertaining to your condition. Remember to write down questions as you think of them and bring a list of medications you are currently taking. Your questions and concerns will be addressed in a caring environment by both your doctor and nurse.

In addition to the services listed above, we also host the Cancer Friendship Group. This is a free support group available to the community.
