PCH/FMC Welcomes Dr. Li, General Surgeon

Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center welcomes Jihui Li, MD, general surgeon, to its full-time medical staff.

Originally from China, Dr. Li has 12 years of experience in general surgery and has performed more than 5,000 surgical procedures. He has a great interest in minimally invasive surgery, including basic and advanced laparoscopic procedures, as well as bariatric surgery.

Dr. Li performs a variety of surgeries, including laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair, Heller myotomy (esophagus), gastrectomy and radical gastrectomy (stomach), colectomy (colon), splenectomy (spleen), hernia repair, cholecystectomy (gallbladder), as well as conventional gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary (liver/gall bladder/bile ducts), thyroid, and breast surgeries.

His work ethics are: “Treat patient with my heart. Heal patient with my hands.”

Dr. Li was born and raised in a small rural town in northern China. While doing surgical residency in Florida, he learned about Paris from Adam Bauermeister, MD, a fellow resident who is from Paris.

“I have been practicing a long time in big cities (Shanghai and New York City) and wanted a change. I want to serve people in the rural area like in my hometown.” Dr. Li said.

Dr. Li earned his medical degree at the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China. Prior to joining PCH/FMC, Dr. Li completed general surgery residency training at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida, where he served as chief surgical resident. He also completed general surgery residency programs in New York and China.

He was the associate professor of surgery and attending surgeon at Shanghai Changhai Hospital of the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai. He has published more than 100 papers, 40 of them as first author. He is the chief translator of one book and associate editor of three additional books. At the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, Dr. Li was a research fellow in bariatric surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery and general surgery. He was a research scholar at the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Li has received many honors in China for his medical achievements, including two “excellent teacher” awards. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Chinese College of Surgeons, Chinese Endocrine Surgery Association (secretary), and Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery (communication editor).

Dr. Li and his wife, Yang Sun, have three children: Annie and Danny, 9, who are twins; and Tony, 18, who will attend the University of Connecticut with plans of becoming a general surgeon.

In his spare time, Dr. Li enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and reading.
