Dr. Gaviyappa treats adults age 18 and older
Horizon Health is expanding its primary care services with the addition of Dr. Sowmya Gaviyappa.
Dr. Gaviyappa specializes in internal medicine, treating adults age 18 and older. She is now accepting patients in the Paris Clinic.
“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Gaviyappa,” said Ollie Smith, Horizon Health president and CEO. “She provides an additional specialty that will greatly benefit our patients.”
Dr. Gaviyappa has 14 years of medical experience. She spent several years as an anesthesiologist providing care to surgical patients. She chose to specialize in internal medicine because of its holistic “whole person” approach, which includes the prevention and treatment of diseases in their early stages.
“It’s a long-time relationship where you get to know the patient and their family,” Dr. Gaviyappa said. “It’s a shared decision-making process. They trust you and look forward to your help.”
Dr. Gaviyappa’s medical interests include preventative care and lifestyle management.
“Lifetime health is based on daily habits,” she added.
Dr. Gaviyappa was born and raised in a small town in India. She calls Paris, Illinois, her “second home” where she and her family have lived for the past four years.
Dr. Gaviyappa attended JJM Medical College in Davangere, India, where she also completed a medical residency in anesthesiology. She completed an internal medical residency at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association.
In her free time, Dr. Gaviyappa enjoys spending time with family, traveling, cooking, hiking, and painting.
