Horizon Health celebrated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Monday, October 28, with an open house to showcase its new mammography and ultrasound suite. This cutting-edge facility, now open at Horizon Health’s main campus in Paris, offers advanced imaging services.
The Horizon Health Foundation is grateful to generous donors for their vital support in funding the new lighting kit and upgrades to the mammography and ultrasound suite. Their contributions funded the suite’s advanced lighting, customizable screens, and innovative elements designed to enhance patient experience. Patients can choose live landscape scenery and audio for the screens from the tablet controller, as well as set the color of the room via the halo ring light on the ceiling. This gives the patient full control of their experience. Also, patients now have total seclusion in their own dressing room. Warm robes are available upon entry with a recliner to relax in before their procedure.
“We’re proud of everything that the staff here does to make it easier and slightly less uncomfortable at a minimum, but then to go above and beyond to make it such a beautiful and comforting space is incredible,” said Randi Bohannon, Horizon Health Foundation Executive Director.
At the open house, community members, healthcare providers, staff, and Foundation representatives gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Guests enjoyed light refreshments while they toured the facilities and learned more about medical offerings from Horizon Health staff. The event was well-received, with attendees expressing excitement and gratitude for the significant strides Horizon Health is making in patient care.
Alongside community members and healthcare staff, Sycamore Engineering expressed its commitment to supporting local health initiatives through its sponsorship of the mammography open house.
“We value our partnership with Horizon Health,” said Justin Kunz, Sycamore Engineering Chief Development Officer. “We want to be part of this community and support the people in the community.”
Aaron Richardson, diagnostic imaging director, shared that patients “want to feel an inviting and relaxing space.” The main goals of the new lighting kit are to reduce fear, worry, and anxiety of getting a mammogram and to get the best image quality possible.
“The patient feedback has been amazing!” Richardson said. “They enjoy being able to pick a color, pick their scene, and pick their audio. They have been thrilled! Patients are more comfortable in this environment.”
The open house also offered guests a look at the suite’s next-generation radiology equipment, including enhancements to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) systems, which allow for comprehensive screenings of the heart, lungs, breast, prostate, and more. Horizon Health’s radiology services now feature some of the region’s most advanced imaging capabilities, ensuring that patients have access to the best diagnostic resources without needing to travel far.
