Psychologist Marilyn Frey is a longtime supporter of Horizon Health and the community. Her recent gift to the Horizon Health Foundation helps patients in Horizon Health’s Cardiopulmonary Rehab Program live healthier, more active lives.
“I just love our community,” said Dr. Frey. “I think the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Program adds such value to the community that I wanted to give back.”
Her donation funded the purchase of the following equipment for the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Program:
- Upper Body Ergometer (UBE) – Often called an “arm bike,” UBE uses a cycling motion like a bicycle, except the user “pedals” with their arms. The machine improves cardiovascular endurance, develops muscle, and improves upper body strength.
- Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor – The professional monitoring system is like those found in pharmacies and retail stores. It can be operated by the users themselves and provides a printout of the blood pressure reading.
- Holter Monitor – The small, wearable device records the heart's rhythm. It is used to detect or determine the risk of irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias).
- Atrial Fibrillation Detection Program – The additional software feature for Holter monitors automatically detects atrial fibrillation and replaces manual readings taken by staff.
Cardiopulmonary Rehab is a supervised exercise program for people with heart, lung, and vascular diseases. Personalized treatment plans involve structured exercise, education, nutritional counseling, stress management, and other lifestyle changes.
