Horizon Health Employee Named Risk Manager of the Year

The Illinois Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ISHRM) has named Eunice Chaney of Horizon Health as its Risk Manager of the Year. The announcement was made at ISHRM’s annual conference June 9 in Springfield.

Eunice is a registered nurse who serves as Horizon Health’s director of risk management, privacy, and occupational health. As director of risk management, she works with leadership and staff to identify areas of potential risk and implements educational offerings and procedures to mitigate identified risk.

“We are all so proud of Eunice and this phenomenal accomplishment,” said Rachel Kelley, vice president of nursing and chief nursing officer. “She is outstanding in all that she does for our patients, families, community, and organization.”

Melissa Sanders, risk management specialist at Horizon Health, nominated Eunice for the award, stating: “She is an amazing mentor for me and others. She brings a positive attitude and personal touch to Horizon Health.”

Within the past year, Eunice spearheaded a new program to address workplace violence and establish Horizon Health as a zero-tolerance facility. She also helped develop new policies and processes to mitigate risk.

Eunice is part of the Horizon Health administrative team. She joined Horizon Health in October 2000. Over her 22-year career, she served in a variety of supervisory and managerial roles, including interim chief nursing officer.

As Horizon Health clinic manager, Eunice received the 2017 Rural Health Administrator of the Year Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association. In 2016, she received the DAISY Award, a national recognition program for extraordinary nurses.

The Illinois Society of Healthcare Risk Management is a 90-member organization comprised of risk managers, insurance company claims adjusters, executives, and attorneys. The organization promotes safe, high-quality health services for patients, visitors, and employees through the professional practice of risk management.
