Horizon Health Expands Anesthesia Services

Announces addition of Dr. James Griggs, anesthesiologist

Horizon Health is expanding its anesthesia services with the addition of Dr. James Griggs, board certified anesthesiologist.

Dr. Griggs is a well-established Wabash Valley physician. As medical director of anesthesia services at Horizon Health, he will lead a team of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). The team provides anesthesia care for surgeries and procedures, utilizing the latest evidence-based techniques for optimum pain control. The team consists of Lovie Cotton, Erin Hein, Adam Schneider, and Scott Williamson, department manager.

Additionally, Dr. Griggs will help care for critically ill patients in Horizon Health’s special care unit (SCU). His expertise includes ventilator management and placement of central line/arterial line catheters.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Griggs to our healthcare team,” said Anita Toussi, MD, Horizon Health chief medical officer. “As an anesthesiologist, he is a physician who is trained in critical care management. He will provide a very high level of care working with hospitalists and SCU staff.”

Dr. Griggs has been an anesthesiologist for 12 years. Prior to Horizon Health, he was the medical director of surgery at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He also served as section chief of the anesthesia department. He is an adjunct professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology.

“I was looking for a change and heard great things about Horizon Health,” Dr. Griggs said. “I’m excited about assisting the critical care staff and anesthesia staff in any way I can.”

Dr. Griggs attended Indiana University School of Medicine. He has two business degrees from Indiana University.

Dr. Griggs lives in Terre Haute with his wife, Cymone. In his free time, he enjoys attending concerts, boating, hiking, scuba diving, and fishing.
