When Laney Robinson left Paris to attend medical school, her plan was to return home as a doctor in her hometown.
Now, after years of schooling, she will begin seeing patients in Horizon Health’s Paris Clinic January 4. Working as a physician in the clinic will be part of her medical residency training. While she will see patients independently, Dr. Lauren Fore will be her supervising physician per residency requirements.
“I always wanted to come back to Paris,” Dr. Robinson said. “I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
Dr. Leland Phipps inspired her to become a family medicine physician, Dr. Robinson said. Dr. Phipps was a highly respected family medicine physician at Horizon Health who passed away suddenly in 2017 after 36 years of service.
“I knew I wanted to be in healthcare but wasn’t sure where,” Dr. Robinson explained. “I learned family practice is definitely for me and Dr. Phipps solidified that. I always liked the idea of being a small-town doctor like him and treating generations of families.”
Dr. Robinson is currently the chief resident in the family medicine program at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She will become a full-time, employed physician at Horizon Health next summer after finishing medical residency.
Dr. Robinson earned her medical degree at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine–Springfield. She has a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences with a minor in chemistry from Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville. She is a member of American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Robinson is a lifelong Paris resident. She attended St. Mary’s, Wenz, Vance, Mayo, and Paris high school. As a high school student, she participated in the health occupations program at Horizon Health where she was a certified nursing assistant for four years.
Dr. Robinson lives in Paris with her husband, Jacob, who is a Paris police officer. Her brother, Jeffery Martin, is also a Paris police officer.
In her free time, Dr. Robinson enjoys watching the Chicago Cubs, taking roads trips, hiking, reading, doing home renovation and design, and spending time with her dogs, Maddox and Axel.
Dr. Robinson provides care for patients of all ages. Her office hours are Monday and Friday, 1:30 to 5 pm, with same-day appointments accepted. She will provide full-time hours beginning this summer. To make an appointment with Dr. Robinson, call 217-465-8411.
