Horizon Health welcomes Yaniv Cozacov, MD, general surgeon, to its full-time medical staff.
Dr. Cozacov joins Jihui Li, MD, also a general surgeon, who came to Horizon Health in 2015. The two physicians have known each other for several years and attended the same general surgery training program at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Fla.
“Working with Dr. Li is a no-brainer and a great opportunity,” Dr. Cozacov said. “He is well known and respected at Cleveland Clinic.”
Dr. Cozacov said he looks forward to working at Horizon Health, which “offers big city services in a rural community.”
“This is a growing hospital and we all see the potential,” he said. “We have very good services and the latest standards of care. If you provide good medicine, people will come.”
Dr. Cozacov performs a variety of surgeries, including laparoscopic hernia repair, bowel surgery, gallbladder removal, bariatric surgery, and hemorrhoid surgery. Others include treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)/heart burn, cyst and skin lesion removal, port and feeding tube placement, and breast procedures.
Prior to Horizon Health, Dr. Cozacov completed residency training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, N.Y. He also completed residencies at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida and at St. John Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich.
After medical school, Dr. Cozacov worked as a clinical research fellow in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida under the direction of Dr. Raul Rosenthal, an internationally renowned surgeon and pioneer in bariatric surgery. Dr. Rosenthal is chairman of the Cleveland Clinic surgery department and past president of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Cozacov earned his medical degree from Debrecen University, Medical and Health Science Center in Hungary. Prior to medical school, he served as a platoon staff sergeant in the Israel Defense Forces.
Dr. Cozacov has authored and co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications – book chapters, numerous oral presentations, and online videos. Several of his most notable articles address bariatric surgery involving severely obese patients, adolescents, nutrition, hernia repair, and complications.
Born and raised in Israel, with an Argentinian descent and a Russian last name, Dr. Cozacov has a diverse cultural background that includes speaking fluent Spanish. He attended medical school in Hungary and completed his surgical training at several top US hospitals. He is married with three children.
