Peg Raley, of Paris, has been named Volunteer of the Year at Horizon Health. The announcement was made at a reception, April 17, that honored all volunteers for their service in 2017. The event took place during National Volunteer Week, April 15-21.
Peg has been a Paris Community Hospital (PCH) Volunteer since July 2010, serving in an officer’s role for the past four years. She is currently president of the PCH Volunteers and has logged 583 volunteer hours to date. She serves on the Compassionate Clothing Ministry’s board of directors and is a member of First Christian Church in Paris.
In 2017, 51 PCH Volunteers donated 6,130 hours – the equivalent of nearly three full-time staff members. They also recruited nine new members in 2017.
The volunteer program continues to grow with the organization. As new needs are identified, the group steps in to help. The volunteers’ ongoing work includes distributing mail, operating the gift shop, decorating the hospital and clinic, and participating in special events.
PCH Volunteers also achieved the following in 2017:
- Created a new patient transport service at Central Scheduling and the Paris Community Hospital front desk
- Conducted book fairs and chocolate sales
- Awarded a $1,000 healthcare scholarship to an area high school student and two $500 scholarships to Horizon Health employees
- Supported the hospital’s annual fundraising event for the purchase of radiology equipment at the EZ Care walk-in clinic
The April 17 reception also honored other individuals who provide volunteer service to Horizon Health. In addition to the PCH Volunteers, these include the hospital and foundation board of directors, chaplains, swing bed helpers, and Meals On Wheels volunteers.
