Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center (PCH/FMC) will welcome Edward Rico, MD, endocrinologist, to its medical staff next month.
As an endocrinologist, Dr. Rico studies the glands and hormones of the body and their related disorders. Endocrinology is the specialty that manages the care of patients with diabetes, thyroid issues, and other hormonal disorders. Dr. Rico will provide care for patients age five and older.
“We’re excited to add Dr. Rico to our full-time medical staff,” said Ollie Smith, PCH/FMC president and CEO. “Dr. Rico’s specialty is in high demand throughout our local community and well beyond. We’re always working to increase access to specialties for our patients, and this is a big win for our community.”
Dr. Rico is familiar with Paris, Edgar County, and the Wabash Valley. He previously practiced in Terre Haute. Most recently, however, he has been practicing in Newburgh, Ind.
Dr. Rico earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago. He completed residency training at Rush University Medical Center (Chicago). He then completed his fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. “This [Dr. Rico coming to Paris] is huge for the community,” said Kirk Good, Paris resident and Type 1 Diabetic. “Being so specialized, he knows all the ins and outs [of diabetes], which is nice.”
Good had been a patient of Dr. Rico’s when he practiced in Terre Haute. “I really liked him. He was super nice to talk to and a good, all-around guy. I think the community will love him.”
Dr. Rico will begin seeing patients in the Paris Family Medical Center on Monday, December 5. Appointments are being accepted now. Call (217) 465-2606, Extension 689.
